President Barack Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize – UPDATED

Via Breitbart:

The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline. Obama’s name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.

2 weeks……….

Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

So this is a pre-emptive award?

UPDATE

Even MSNBC thinks this is a joke. Once again – it’s Bush’s fault.

  • Pre-emptive? Maybe. But more like empty.

The Nobel Prize has now become, roughly, the equivalent of a book publishing advance. Each new award seems to cheapen and degrade prior awards, like inflated college degrees from diploma mills.

Algore’s participation in a global group experience is now degraded by a candidate with two weeks experience!

To imagine, comparing Linus Pauling with Obama!

Why not Britney Spears? How about Madonna? These are women who have brought change to American, ambassadors of humanity and humanitarianism.

Awarding a Nobel Prize to Obama makes about as much sense as confering the same on Joe the Plumber except Joe has shown some integrity.

Actually Angelina Jolie has done more than Obama. I feel for the people on the list that actually have contributed that were passed by for a rock star.

Does he have to give the award back when Iran bombs Israel?
